Don called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Don welcomed Suzin Stockton and Beverly from the Neptune Memorial Reef. Suzin is a licensed state representative for the Neptune Society. There was a 4 minutes DVD presentation on the reef. The man-made reef is 3 miles off the Miami coast. Anyone interested can check out the website at nmreef.com or call 888-716-reef. After the dvd there was a slide show of the reef. The 1st phase of the reef was completed in 2007. The 1st phase is a replica of The Lost City of Atlantis. The way it is done is by combining the cremation ashes with cement and poured into a mold. It is then taken down to the reef to become part of the sculpture. When that is completed they put a 3 x 5 bronze plaque on it. The reef is constructed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. The reef is 45' deep and when completed it will hold 120,000 total people. It is a restricted area were there is no spear fishing or anchoring. Suzin and/or Beverly can come to your home with no obligations for about 1 hour to go over the plans . Don thanked Suzin and Beverly for their time and continued with the meeting. Don spoke of the upcoming dives. There is a lobster trip scheduled for March 27 & 28 with Sandy in West Palm. There will also be another dive with Sandy on April 17 & 18. Anyone interested in doing the April dive needs to have the money to Donna by March 31. The May 15 & 16 trip is to Pompano Beach with Diversity. Donna is waiting for an email from Al with Bay Adventures to finalize the Big Trip to Cozumel. There are 17 people going with 2 non divers. No one has found any good prices on airlines yet. Michelle is going to dive the Neptune Reef this weekend. She will let everyone know how it was, along with the water temp. Don reminded everyone that the next meeting will be at his home on April 13 @ 6:30p.m. He will have hot dogs, salads, chips and, of course, beer. The meeting was adjourned at 7:50p.m. |
